Hibakusha Portraits
In 2023 during two 2 week long visits to Japan (and a flying visit to Toronto) working with 80,000 voices and supported by Soka Gakkai International & the Arts Council of Wales. I photographed 52 of the surviving Hibakusha (bomb affected person) in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These recordings were made into large 3D lenticular prints by me at my studio in Wales and were shown at the Soka Bunka Centre in Shinjuku, Tokyo in 2024. Nagasaki & Hiroshima in 2025. Smaller exhibitions also took place at the United Nations in New York and SGI events in Malmo and London. Two of the subjects photographed, Toshiyuki Mimaki and Shigemitsu Tanaka,were part of the group Nihon Hidankyo who won the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize.

Just a quick note to say that the true magic of these artworks really comes to life when you see them in person! Photographs, especially on the web, don’t quite do justice to the depth and dimension of the lenticulars and holograms.
